The <em>Mordomo<\/em> this year will be <strong>Capt. MANUEL &#8216;FRIZADO&#8217; SILVA<\/strong>, born in <strong>FUNCHAL, MADEIRA<\/strong>, and master of the tuna clipper <strong><em>&#8220;SANTO AMARO&#8221;<\/em><\/strong>, and that vessel&#8217;s crew are expected to figure predominantly in the affair.<br> A cousin of Capt. Silva, Miss<strong> CONSUELO DRUMMOND<\/strong> will be the <strong><em>Festa Queen<\/em><\/strong>.  She will be attended by Miss <strong>MARIA SANTOS<\/strong>, the young sister of <strong>Capt. DENNIS SANTOS<\/strong> of the <strong><em>&#8220;Sacramento&#8221;<\/em><\/strong>, and Miss <strong>AURELIA SILVA<\/strong>, <em>sister<\/em> of <strong>EDWARD SILVA<\/strong>, tuna man of the <strong><em>&#8220;THEODORE FOSS&#8221;<\/em><\/strong>.<br>  <em>Maids of the Sacred Square<\/em> will be: Miss <strong>ALDORA DRUMMOND<\/strong> (<em>sister<\/em> of the Queen), Miss <strong>EVELYN TAVARES<\/strong> (daughter of <strong>Frank Tavares<\/strong>, fisherman aboard the <strong><em>&#8216;Navigator&#8217;<\/em><\/strong>); Miss <strong>HELEN SEBASTIAN<\/strong> (daughter of the Engineer of the tuna vessel <strong><em>&#8216;Atlantic&#8217;<\/em><\/strong>,<strong> John Sebastian<\/strong>); and Miss <strong>TILLIE ATHAIDE<\/strong> (daughter of <strong>Mrs. Maria Athaide<\/strong>, Supervising Director of the Festa <em>banquet<\/em>).<br> The tiny girl who each year is selected to be the <strong><em>&#8216;Tunaship Queen&#8217;<\/em><\/strong> will this time be Miss <strong>HAZEL VIRISSIMO<\/strong>, age <strong>7<\/strong>, a lovely child and daughter of <strong>Manuel Virissimo<\/strong>, tuna man aboard the <strong><em>&#8216;St. Therese&#8217;<\/em><\/strong>.<br>The <strong><em>&#8220;Boat Queen Maids&#8221;<\/em><\/strong> will be Miss <strong>MARY VIRISSIMO<\/strong>, age <strong>8<\/strong> (daughter of <strong>Sabino Virissimo<\/strong> of the <strong><em>&#8216;St. Therese&#8217;<\/em><\/strong>); and Miss <strong>ADELINE ROGERS<\/strong>, age <strong>8<\/strong> (daughter of the <strong><em>&#8216;Navigator&#8217;<\/em><\/strong> Engineer, Mr. <strong>Joe S. Rogers<\/strong>).<br> Administrative officers of the event will be <strong><em>President<\/em>, Capt. MANUEL SILVA<\/strong> of the <strong><em>&#8216;Santo Amaro&#8217;<\/em><\/strong>, <em>Permanent Vice-President<\/em> <strong>Capt. MANUEL O. MEDINA<\/strong> of the <strong><em>&#8216;Atlantic&#8217;<\/em><\/strong>; <em>Secretary<\/em>, <strong>Capt. MANUEL HOMEM<\/strong> <strong>FREITAS<\/strong> of the <strong><em>&#8216;Navigator&#8217;<\/em><\/strong>; and <em>Treasurer<\/em>, Engineer of the <strong><em>&#8216;Navigator&#8217;<\/em><\/strong>, Mr. <strong>JOE S. ROGERS<\/strong>.<br> <strong>Capt. MANUEL &#8216;FRIZADO&#8217; SILVA<\/strong> and the crew of the <strong><em>&#8216;SANTO AMARO&#8217;<\/em><\/strong> are <strong>MADEIRA ISLANDERS<\/strong> (2 Portuguese islands some 420 miles off the west coast of Africa &#8211; ed.), wherefore this year&#8217;s Festa will be an occasion in which the tuna men of Madeiran origin naturally will be prominent. The <strong>SANTOS<\/strong> family, owner of the <strong><em>&#8216;SACRAMENTO&#8217;<\/em><\/strong>, likewise hail from the Madeira&#8217;s, hence its large participation in the event. Many of the Madeira men came to San Diego from FUNCHAL, MADEIRA, which is explanation enough for the fact that there is now a large tuna boat by that name, also a San Pedro swordfish boat similarly titled, and one or two lesser craft identically named. A copy of it will be forwarded to the Lead affiliate of this Project (Ms. Zeca Rodrigues).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>***Meanwhile&#8230;, in the LOCAL Newspaper<\/em><\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">  \u201c<strong>FISHERMEN HOLD ANNUAL PROGRAM &#8211; Fireworks Off Point Loma Feature of Evening Events; Most of Tuna Fleet in Port<\/strong> &#8211; Preceding the final day of the 3-day celebration of La Fiesta to Espritu Santo (aka <em>Festa do Divino Esp\u00edrito Santo<\/em> \u2013 ed.) <em><strong>illuminated fishing boats<\/strong><\/em> and a display of <em><strong>fireworks<\/strong><\/em> enlivened the anchorage off Point Loma last night for the annual observance of the fisherman\u2019s celebration.  This year\u2019s celebration found most of the fleet in port.  Two tuna clippers, the \u2018<em><strong>PATRIA\u2019<\/strong><\/em> and \u2018<em><strong>SAN SALVADOR\u2019<\/strong><\/em>, raced from near the equator to get in on the festival, the boat\u2019s setting a new record of <strong>11<\/strong> <strong>days<\/strong> travel for the run from the Galapagos Islands (approx. 2,850 distant \u2013 ed.).  Today\u2019s program will start with the parade to the Portuguese church at La Playa.   Wearing of colorful costumes of their native country will feature this part of the celebrants\u2019 activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">  Members of the crew of the big tuna clipper <strong>\u2018<\/strong><em><strong>SANTO AMARO\u2019<\/strong><\/em> are sponsors for this year\u2019s fiesta.  Captain <strong>MANUEL SILVA<\/strong> of the <strong>\u2018<\/strong><em><strong>Santa Amaro\u2019<\/strong><\/em> is President, and his cousin, <strong>Miss CONSUELO<\/strong> <strong>DRUMMOND<\/strong>, is Queen.  <strong>Miss MARIA SANTOS<\/strong>, sister of Captain <strong>DENNIS SANTOS<\/strong> of the <strong>\u2018<\/strong><em><strong>SACRAMENTO\u2019<\/strong><\/em>, and <strong>Miss ARELIA SILVA<\/strong>, sister of Mr. <strong>EDWARD SILVA<\/strong> of the <strong>\u2018<\/strong><em><strong>THEODORE<\/strong><\/em> <em><strong>FOSS\u2019<\/strong><\/em> will be the Queen\u2019s attendant.  Seven-year-old <strong>HAZEL VIRISSIMO<\/strong>, daughter of <strong>EMMANUEL<\/strong> <strong>VIRISSIMO<\/strong> of the <em><strong>\u2018ST. THERESE\u2019<\/strong><\/em> is \u2018<em>Tunaship Queen<\/em>\u2019.  **Permanent officials of the celebration are Captain <strong>M. O. MEDINA<\/strong> of the <strong>\u2018<\/strong><em><strong>ATLANTIC\u2019<\/strong><\/em>, Vice-President Capt. <strong>MANUEL H. FREITAS<\/strong> of the <strong>\u2018<\/strong><em><strong>NAVIGATOR\u2019<\/strong><\/em> as Secretary, and Mr. <strong>JOE S. Special notice might be that all three &#8220;Permanent&#8221; men are originally natives of the mid-Atlantic Portuguese island of <strong><em>Pico<\/em><\/strong>, A\u00e7ores (1 of 9 such islands); while this year&#8217;s <em>Mordomo<\/em> (<strong>Capt. Manuel &#8220;Frizado&#8221; Silva<\/strong>) is from <strong>Funchal<\/strong>, <strong>MADEIRA<\/strong> (also a Portuguese Atlantic Island, but some 750 miles distant from the A\u00e7orean island of Pico, possibly (?!) suggesting some &#8220;issue&#8221; with &#8220;newer&#8221; volunteers?!?
